2010 Photo Contest

City of Vacaville Photo Contest

It’s time once again for the City of Vacaville’s Annual Photo Contest. We’re partnering with the Vacaville Conference & Visitors Bureau again this year! And once again we’re going digital! All entries must be submitted on the Flickr website at http://www.flickr.com/groups/vacavilletourism. That’s where you’ll find all the information you need to participate in the contest!

This year’s theme, “My Vacaville” - shots of what you love most about Vacaville. We are looking for photos of people. Show us "you" enjoying our great city!

Youth and adult winners will be selected.

So mark your calendars and get out your camera and start capturing what makes Vacaville such a great place to live, work and visit!

What to Enter

We are looking for images that portray Vacaville as an attractive and exciting destination. Images will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit.

Here are just a few ideas:

  • Interesting angles, interior images of familiar places
  • New and old architectural treasures
  • People enjoying sporting events
  • Weddings, reunions and other family gatherings; people enjoying Vacaville
  • Ethnic ceremonies and celebrations
  • Food and entertainment settings (inside & out)
  • Anything else you encounter that portrays Vacaville as a great place to shop, dine and stay!

Prizes

Winning images will be featured on the City of Vacaville’s website and will be on permanent display in Vacaville City Hall. Also, photos may be used in future Vacaville Conference & Visitors Bureau publications and on their website. A total of $500 in prize money will be awarded in Youth and Adult categories. The prize breakdown is as follows:

  • 1st Place Adult - $50
  • 2nd Place Adult - $30
  • Honorable mention Adult - $20
  • 1st Place Youth - $50
  • 2nd Place Youth - $30
  • Honorable Mention - $20
  • Overall Grand Prize - $100

Entry

The competition is open to everyone except employees of the Vacaville Conference & Visitors Bureau and the City of Vacaville. Both the City of Vacaville and the Vacaville Conference & Visitors Bureau shall have the right to verify, in their sole judgment, winner eligibility. Entries must be received by September 3, 2010. Adding photos to the Vacaville Tourism group on Flickr and entry to the contest constitutes your agreement to allow your photographs to be published and used in online and offline marketing materials produced by the City of Vacaville, the Vacaville Conference & Visitors Bureau and select travel partners. Entrants retain ownership and all other rights to future use of their photographs. Photos will be credited where possible but cannot be guaranteed.

Submitting Entries

Log in to Flickr.com using your existing Flickr™ or Yahoo!™ ID. If you do not have a Flickr™ account, you can sign-up for a free account at Flickr™.com. Flickr™ and Yahoo!™ are registered trademarks of Yahoo, Inc. If you have trouble using Flickr™, please consult their help files.

  • Go to Flickr.com and search for the group Vacaville Tourism in the Search Groups box.
  • On the Vacaville Tourism group page, click the Join This Group button.
  • If you have an existing Photostream, drag photos to “Your Selections” box, then click “Add to Group”
  • If you are creating a new Photostream, click “Up load something new”
  • Upload images to Flickr™.com as publicly accessible, in the highest resolution you have available.
  • Include the tag CVBtourism10. If you do not tag your photos by the deadline, they will not be considered for the competition.
  • Add the photos to the Vacaville Tourism group by clicking on the “Add to Group” icon. (Note: all photos will be subject to review before they appear in the Vacaville Tourism group. Please wait at least three days for them to appear.)
  • Identify locations and events in captions of no more than 50 words per image.
  • Submit an official entry form with signed model releases, where applicable, on the Vacaville Conference & Visitors Bureau website, visitvacaville.com. You will find the link to the and contest rules on the homepage. Entry form must be submitted for inclusion in the contest.

Guidelines

  • Each entrant may submit an unlimited amount of photos.
  • Official entries will be judged by the CVBtourism10 tag. Entrants are encouraged to add an unlimited number of photos to the Vacaville Tourism group and then tag the 10 images that they would like to be considered for official entry when the contest closes on September 3, 2010.
  • Photo entries must be at least a large size on Flickr (about 750x1024).

Model Releases

Entries featuring people are encouraged, but must be accompanied by signed model releases granting the City of Vacaville and the Vacaville Conference & Visitors Bureau the right to use the images in its marketing materials and website. Releases (see attached sample) should include contact information for the people featured, including full names and phone numbers. Photographs of children should include signed permission by a parent or legal guardian.

Judging

Winning entries will be selected by their depiction of Vacaville as well as overall photo quality and must be received by September 3, 2010. The judging panel will include representatives from the City of Vacaville and the Vacaville Conference & Visitors Bureau. Results will be announced by October 1, 2010.
