Picture-perfect weather, gorgeous turning leaves, pumpkin picking, and so many things to do outdoors – who could ask for more? We’re so excited for autumn that we decided to put together a quick list of the best things to do in Vacaville. So, what are you waiting for – get out and enjoy it while it lasts!

Murder & Mayhem - True Crime Walking Tour

September 30, 6:30pm & October 1, 11:00am

Historians from the Vacaville Heritage Council will lead a guided tour of downtown Vacaville and reveal its fascinating history of murder and mayhem. True-crime fans and history buffs will love this event. The tour will begin in front of the Town Square Library and sign-ups are required (online or in-person).

Sweet Pea's Harvest Market & Pumpkin Patch

October 1, 9am - 2pm

Fall festivities as you stroll through our pumpkins, visit farm animals and find your perfect pumpkins for your autumn decorations and Halloween creations. Shop for succulent topped pumpkins and visit with local artisans, makers, bakers and friends. Sweet Peas Harvest Market is family-friendly and pet-friendly. Music by Alan. Free Entry & Parking.

Nut Tree World Championship Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off

October 8, 10am - 5pm

Bring the whole family to witness pumpkins of prodigious proportions from all over California take over Nut Tree Plaza! The 2nd annual World Championship Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off will bring family fun activities, including a Pumpkin Trail in the plaza, jump house, obstacle course, face painting, pumpkin carver, a petting zoo, and more! To make this tradition even sweeter, give back to your community by donating non-perishable goods at the Nut Tree. In addition, the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and Travis Air Force Base will be on hand to collect new, unwrapped toys to gift to children this holiday season!

Nut Tree Giant Pumpkin Trail

October 8, 10am - 5pm

The Giant Pumpkin Trail was created by Visit Vacaville to celebrate Halloween and the Nut Tree World Championship Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off! The Giant Pumpkin Trail is a fun way for children and their families to explore the Nut Tree Plaza and do a little trick or treating while completing the check ins to earn a Halloween prize.

Howl-O-Ween Parade & Costume Contest

October 29, 11:30am - 1:30pm

Pooch Parade and Costume Contest, vendors, pet adoptions, prizes, and fun for all!It's time for pumpkins and puppy costumes at the annual Howl-O-Ween event! Show off your fur-baby in style at our well-known costume contest! Each contestant will have 1 minute to put their best "paw" forward. Community judges will cast the final vote, and winners will be announced at the end of the event. Then stroll around our vendor area for cute items for your pup, or pick up a new friend with one of the adoptable pets. Sign up for the costume parade and contest, or just come on down to cheer on adorable costumed dogs! Happy Howl-O-Ween!!!

Downtown Vacaville Halloween Stroll

The Annual Downtown Vacaville Halloween Stroll is scheduled from 4pm-6pm this Halloween. The streets will be closed for safe Trick-or-Treating on Main, Merchant, and Parker Streets. FREE and SAFE Trick or Treating!


Día de los Muertos Celebration

The City of Vacaville Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce a Día de los Muertos celebration. All are invited to participate in this inaugural event and learn more about this traditional Mexican holiday. This free event will take place rain or shine, on Wednesday, November 2 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Andrews Park located at 614 E. Monte Vista Avenue.

The evening will be full of live entertainment with folkloric dancers, Dazantes Unidos, and music by Los Cochinos. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with Vacaville’s rich history by visiting the Peña Adobe Historical Society and Vacaville Heritage Council booths. An onsite food vendor will provide Latin snacks, featuring tamales, champurrado (Mexican hot chocolate), pan de Muerto (bread of the dead), esquites (corn in a cup) and more delicious treats!

Participants are encouraged to bring a photo of a loved one to place on the community altar. Marigolds, electric candles and hand-crafted 3”x3” picture frames will be provided, and are intended to go home with each family to become part of their familial altar.

Andrews Park CreekWalk

Observe the change of seasons in all its glory with a stroll down the CreekWalk trail in Andrews Park. Both the downtown and CreekWalk trail are a riot of fall colors in October and November. Head out to the trail after a rare rain and you can even spot some small waterfalls during your walk. By the way, if you happen to be a photography buff you will find ample opportunity for some gorgeous shots. Use the #ILoveVacaville hashtag and we may feature your photos!
