Nut Tree World Championship Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off

Fall is here, and that means one thing – it’s pumpkin season! This year, as the Nut Tree celebrates its 100th Anniversary, Vacaville will have more than pumpkin spice lattes, breads, and other treats to consume; the city is also welcoming back a long-lost tradition, a feast for the eyes!

To mark this important centennial milestone, the Nut Tree is ushering back the World Championship Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off by the California Pumpkin Growers Club (“CPGC”).

The CPGC originally attended the historic Fall Festival until the Nut Tree ceased operations in 1996. Since then, they have been a part of the Pumpkin Festival in Elk Grove where it has grown into a two-day festival drawing up to 72,000 people; CPGC members travel from all over the United States to participate in this fun and entertaining event.

Starting October 9, 2021, the World Championship Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off is returning to the Nut Tree as its official competition grounds and partner.

Pumpkins can weigh over 2,000 pounds and prize money is awarded based on weight. Future farmers (6 to 17 years old) participate in their own category and there will also be a vegetable category. Attendees can expect to see entries from the following grower categories: Atlantic Giant Pumpkin, cantaloupe, long gourd, squash, watermelon, bushel gourd, field pumpkin, marrow, sunflower, and tomatoes.

The Nut Tree World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off Contest will be one of the largest purse winnings and is expected to draw many growers. Don’t miss the rebirth of this annual event with its first year back at the Nut Tree!

With its notable past, growing from a modest roadside fruit stand to California’s Legendary Road Stop, the Nut Tree has captivated so many over these years. Today, Nut Tree continues to offer timeless memories to a new generation of visitors.

Come make your own memories from 10 am to 4 pm on competition day: Saturday, October 9, at Nut Tree Plaza, located at 1661 E Monte Vista Ave, Vacaville, CA 95688.
