Exploring the Pena Adobe Area:
Step back in time to 1842 with your favorite four-legged history buff! Located inside the beautiful Lagoon Valley Park, the Peña Adobe Historical Area features the oldest fully intact structure in Solano County.
Run by the passionate volunteers of the Peña Adobe Historical Society, this historic site offers a glimpse into early California life. While the inside of the adobe structure and the adjacent Mowers-Goheen Museum are reserved for humans and service animals, the surrounding historical grounds are 100% dog-friendly and make for a truly unique afternoon walk!
What to Explore on the Historic Grounds:
The Memorial Rose Garden: Stroll along the paved paths of the beautiful, serene garden adjacent to the Adobe. It’s filled with vibrant blooms and makes a gorgeous backdrop for a photo of your pup.
The Historic Willow & Redwood Trees: Let your dog enjoy a sensory "sniff safari" under some of the massive, mature trees that shade the historical structures.
The Native Plant Garden & Willow Teepee: Walk your pup past the traditional Native American style willow structure and look at the native plants used by the region’s original inhabitants, the Patwin people.
Shaded Picnic Grounds: Surrounding the historic home is a massive, lush grassy area equipped with picnic tables and barbecue pits. It’s the perfect place to set up a blanket and share a relaxing lunch with your leashed dog under the shade.
Tips for Your Visit:
Tag-Team the Museum: If you want to peek inside the museum or the adobe during one of the Historical Society's monthly Open Houses, bring a friend! You can take turns hanging out on the lovely grass with your pup while the other takes a tour indoors.
Keep It Leashed: Because this is a protected historical site with roaming wildlife and community events, dogs must be kept on a standard leash at all times while on the Adobe grounds.
Burn Off Extra Energy Next Door: If your dog is craving some off-leash speed after their history lesson, the massive Lagoon Valley Dog Park is just a short walk away on the other side of the park, featuring separate fenced-in spaces for large and small dogs!

Good to Know: There is a $5 parking fee for Lagoon Valley Park. Check the Peña Adobe Historical Society's schedule online ahead of time if you want to visit during one of their vibrant, family-friendly monthly event days!
