An Artistic View of Historical Buck Avenue & Main Street with J.S. Hartley

June 25- August 15 2026

“My goal with this project was to create artistic images of historic properties reflecting a possible minds-eye vision of the inhabitants. Every home built is someone’s dream. Every business opened is someone’s dream. These images ARE romanticized. They are my mind’s interpretation of how the residents of those homes, the owners of those businesses, might view those places that are so very special to them. Yes, they’re just buildings. We see old buildings all the time. But how many families grew up in those homes? How many children were born, birthdays celebrated, and passings mourned? What daily dramas, challenges, triumphs, and losses took place within those walls? What about the dreams of the business owners? What happened to dreams of providing valuable services to the community, of making a difference, of supporting families, and, if they worked hard enough, of becoming wealthy and respected? How many business dreams came to fruition, and how many withered and died within these buildings? Many were destroyed by fire and earthquake near the turn of the century, but the town was rebuilt, and more dreams were realized. Each structure portrayed in this exhibit has a story, and the current owners and inhabitants are part of that continuing story. As you view these images, ask yourself, what is the ongoing story of this place? What is the dream?”
