A Dog's Guide to Vacaville, California

Grab your best human for an epic adventure around Vacaville, one of Northern California's most pet-friendly communities.

MORNING JUMPSTART

Start the day with a stop at Journey Coffee Company, where a large and inviting patio area welcomes furry friends and your people can enjoy fair trade coffee, home made kombucha, and grab a few snacks for the day ahead. Human tip: Don’t miss out on the macarons from Traylor Made Treats- they come in fun, seasonal flavors and are a local favorite!

ADVENTURE AND EXERCISE

From there, head out to Pena Adobe Regional Park and explore over 400 acres of trails that feature sweeping views of the Vacaville hills. There is also a dog park to meet new friends, and Lagoon Valley Lake to watch the ducks or take a dip. Parking is $5.

AFTERNOON STROLL AND LUNCH

Take a stroll down Buck Avenue in Downtown Vacaville to see the historic homes, then hit up Vasquez Deli for lunch on the patio. This local Mexican deli has been family owned and operated for over 30 years, and is a Vacaville institution. Human tip: Try the loaded nachos (made however you like!) or a wet burrito.

SHOPPING

Stop off at Sweet Pea’s Pet Boutique and peruse a great assortment of organic dog food and treats, locally made artisan collars, toys, bath products, and more. Don’t forget to say hi to the employees- they’ll post your picture on their Facebook page. Human tip: Sweet Pea’s also has a lovely garden area with native plants, flowers, and organic, pet-safe gardening products.

EVENING PLAYTIME

Just up the road from Sweet Pea’s you’ll find Alamo Creek Park, one of Vacaville’s largest neighborhood parks. With plenty of shady grass, open areas for fetch, and a large playground, it’s the perfect spot for pets with kids to play together. Human tip: Wear your workout gear because there are built-in fitness stops along the park’s walking path.

YAPPY HOUR

Finish the day off at The Brass Tap! The humans can enjoy one of over 300 craft beers and yummy pub food, and dogs are always welcome on the large patio. The friendly staff at The Tap will also provide dog treats and water, and on Sundays, they have Yappy Hour all day long, where your human can get a discount on their first beer. Human tip: Don’t miss out on the house made pretzels with Sam Adams beer cheese!
