Vacaville Officially Chicken-Ville.
SCOOP: In majority vote VCC changed the name of Vacaville.

April 1st, 2025 — Vacaville, CA
In what can only be described as a scramble for the ages, and April Fools, Vacaville has officially been renamed Chicken-Ville and some residents are "clucking excited!"
You might be wondering, “Why the change?” Well, it turns out that chickens were actually here long before cows, and after years of evidence and overwhelming support from local poultry enthusiasts, the decision was made. Chickens, once considered the underdogs of our agricultural history, have now officially taken the crown in Vacaville.
The Debate: Cows vs. Chickens
The decision came after extensive research by a group of local historians, led by Dr. Henrietta Feathers (yes, her real name!), who presented undeniable proof that chickens arrived in the region far earlier than the cows that helped shape Vacaville’s reputation as “Cowtown.” Cows were introduced later on, mostly for dairy and beef purposes, but chickens? They’ve always been here, quietly clucking in the background, waiting for their moment of glory. “We’ve always known that chickens were central to our farming community, but this study really changed the way we look at our history,” said Dr. Feathers. “They were the first settlers, they laid the eggs of our agricultural economy, and now, they deserve their time in the sun.”
What the Locals Are Saying
While the name change has caused quite a stir, many residents are egg-cited about the new chapter in Vacaville’s history. Local chicken enthusiast and self-proclaimed "Poultry Princess" Holly Cluckwell shared her thoughts:
"Finally! I’ve been saying for years that chickens were the true pioneers of this town. They’ve been overlooked for too long. Now, it's Chicken-Ville, and I couldn't be more proud. I’m already looking forward to the Chicken Festival this summer!"
And it seems like Holly isn't alone. Many other locals are embracing the change, despite the historical ties to cows. Local business owner Beau Bovine, owner of Bovine’s BBQ, had this to say:
"I mean, I’ve got cows on the brain, but chickens? Now that’s something to crow about. I think it’s a fun change, and I’m all in. I can’t wait for the Chicken Parade — just hope they don't get too carried away with the feathers!"
Chicken-Ville Signs and Celebrations!
You might be wondering what this means for the future of our town. Well, for starters, new signs are already going up around town proudly displaying our new name: Chicken-Ville. The first signs were unveiled at Andrews Park this morning, where a group of residents gathered to celebrate the historic occasion — and yes, there were plenty of chickens on hand to "cut the ribbon." For the first time ever, Chicken-Ville will host a Chicken Festival this summer, celebrating all things poultry! Expect a parade, local chicken farms showing off their finest birds, a fried chicken cook-off (obviously), and even a “Best Cluck” competition. Not to mention the Chicken Dance that’s bound to take over the streets.
A Final Thought
We understand that not everyone is on board with the change, and that’s okay! Change can be hard, but just remember: Happy April Fools’ Day, Vacaville! Forever Cowtown. 🐄
